ABOUT THE ÖVGD
The ÖVGD, the Austrian Association of Legal Interpreters and Translators, was founded in 1920 and is the only professional association of this industry in Austria. The ÖVGD is the official contact for the Ministry of Justice in matters relating to legal interpreting/translation.
Please mind: For organisational reasons, the secretariat does not accept inquiries for interpreting or translation services. Take advantage of selecting interpreters and translators directly from the members database. A printed version of the members directory is also available for download.
The ÖVGD offers a host of services to its members (advice on fee issues, CPD activities, educational material), publishes an electronic newsletter and (twice a year) the printed "Mitteilungsblatt" bulletin. The ÖVGD Forum is the association’s platform for informal exchanges among members.
The ÖVGD has adopted a code of professional ethics which is binding upon members. Compliance is monitored by a disciplinary committee.
The ÖVGD is an expert member of the ASI Language Service Providers Committee participating in the creation of national and international standards for the language industry.
The ÖVGD is member of
- EULITA (European Legal Interpreters and Translators Association)
- FIT (International Federation of Translators)
- FVB ÖStA (National Association of Austrian Registrars)
- Hauptverband der Gerichtssachverständigen (National Association of Sworn and Court-Certified Experts in Austria reflecting the fact that expert witnesses and legal interpreters/translators are governed by the same laws (Sachverständigen- und Dolmetschgesetz, Gebührenanspruchsgesetz).
